Client Server Database Architecture
Client Server Database Architecture Client server database architecture consists of two logical components. One is “Client” and the other one is “Server”. Clients are those who send the request to perform a specific task to the server. Servers are normally receive the command sent by the clients, perform the task and send the appropriate result back to the client. Example of client is PC where as…

Find Me. Pt 2
Synopsis: In the cold light, you can see some old secrets of the old castle. Be a beautiful lady from the portraits while your knight is on his way to try to save you from the clutches of a madman.
Warning: Kidnapping, ancient architecture, mentioned that the reader does not have a father; two-person narrative (Leon v reader); angst; trauma; dark; blood; mention of vomiting; severed limbs; loss of consciousness; B.O.W.
A/N: after a long break, bursting in with a continuation. I hope for support and that at least someone will be pleased. I think I wrote all the warnings, of course, I'm not a master of writing all sorts of horror, but still, read at your own risk (see warning).
A small spoiler - In the next chapter, one very familiar character will appear, although he died in canon, but I send canon to hell.
Tumblr media
Prologue, part 1
Tumblr media
A strange voice echoed inside, sending small waves of trembling, forcing your palms to involuntarily clench into fists as if a weapon might appear in them. You tensed your whole body, looked up at the upper tier, where the stranger's voice was coming from. Taking a few steps back, carefully climbing several stairs, you hoped to see a face, but the upper floor was still a dark corner without a light source, no matter how hard you tried to strain your eyes.
"Come to me
And see true love"
It's hard to stay calm and unbiased when you find yourself in a strange place, but panic slowly took over your mind. You took a few more steps up, holding on to the railing, involuntarily bending your knees, but no one appeared. Your heart started pounding, your fingers dug into the wood, threatening to leave nail marks, as if a monster would come out of the dark corners and a pathetic railing would be the only way to somehow linger in this world.
"Excuse me" You spoke up after a long silence. For a couple of seconds, it even seemed to you that the male voice was just a figment of your frightened imagination, however…
Thunder boomed loudly, echoing in the castle walls, leaving behind an eerie echo from the rumble like the screams of restless, forgotten souls. You gasped loudly in surprise and a brief flash of bright light broke through the dark stained glass window, but it took a moment to see the silhouette and make sure that someone was upstairs.
He laughed too cheekily, almost mockingly at your fright. It was hard to tell if he was looking out the window somewhere or at you, but you tried to straighten your back as you continued on your way back, eventually clinging to a wide marble column and cautiously peeking out from behind it.
"It would be better if you didn't walk around the castle at such a late hour… It's very old, I wouldn't want the floor to collapse under your feet." Vaguely, the stranger's voice was familiar to you. Deep at the same time pleasant, but making the wound on your forehead throb unpleasantly with pain. A cool breeze hit you in the face, cheering you up a little, even though the uncertainty was making you shiver.
You winced at the unpleasant sensations, but you didn't look away even after a few more short loud flashes in the sky illuminating the dark hall.
"Go back to your room and we'll continue our acquaintance in the morning. There is no need to look for unnecessary problems when you have such potential hidden in you." The stranger turned away from the stained glass window after taking a couple of steps forward, and even though you were separated by pitiful meters, he did not have the opportunity to reach you. This already added a little courage to you, but it made the invisible gaze uneasy "I have big special plans for you"
“What?.." You asked perplexedly into the void, noticing how, without waiting for your answer, he simply walks out the door leaving you alone with a whole bunch of questions. "Hey, wait! Who are you…"
The slam of the heavy door made you flinch again, followed by another flash of lightning.
After waiting for some time, you anxiously looked around, hearing nothing for several seconds except the annoying clock. Nevertheless, I decided to go downstairs, staring at the bas-relief located on most of the wall.
"Hades kidnaps Persephone, taking her to the underworld, and next to the chariot in a team of four horses is the very flower whose fragrance the goddess of spring inhaled a moment before the arrival of Hades"
There is even some irony in this. It is noteworthy that the flower itself was somehow different, not that you paid much attention to it, but there was a feeling that it could be important.
At least there's time to look around and try to avoid meeting that mysterious man whose face you never saw. The lighting left much to be desired, but still involuntarily you looked at various paintings with landscapes, feeling like a tiny ant in this castle. You took one last look in the direction from which you came, considering that it would not be easy to find your way back and stretched out your hand to the west door turning the handle, feeling how it gave way, after which the damp air hit your face.
In any case, your priority was and is to find some means of communication.
Clearly no one here wants to answer your questions. After casting a final glance around the small hall, you stepped out the door with a strange feeling of being followed, although perhaps that was just your imagination, fueled by shadows, glare, and fear that made your palms sweat.
Tumblr media
"You can't know that this is revenge!" Ingrith raised her voice for the umpteenth time. "Why would someone kidnap her and then never contact you?"
"I don't know!" Leon answered rudely, turning his back to her, grabbed the bag from the closet, threw it on the bed, involuntarily lingering his gaze on the gunshot wound on the wooden door.
The thought that you could be dead… Every night he drove them away. He jumped up to find a new lead, witnesses, at least something that could shed light on your disappearance, but apart from traces of your DNA and drops of blood from the syringe, nothing was found. Tears welled up in his eyes every time he thought about how you could have suffered. Because of him. Because of his work and how many enemies Leon had made for himself since becoming an agent.
"It was my mistake," he said quietly, pulling out your chiffon scarf instead of his things. The familiar scent was pleasant but subtle, making everything inside ache even more. Hannigan's eyes showed regret, but she had no words to console her. "No one else had a motive to hurt her. She was kind, so good and innocent. I thought I could save her from the evil that was happening in the world, but in the end… a cruel joke, because of me she suffered."
She lowered her head and fell silent.
"Half a year, Leon, you know perfectly well that the chance that she might be alive is very low. I would even say catastrophically low, that recording doesn't prove anything even if it's real."
"Maybe, but even if I have one chance in a thousand, I'll take it."
His fingers carefully and tenderly folded the scarf, leaving it lying on the shelf with the others. As if the owner of these clothes would return home at any moment. Hannigan didn't know for sure, but for some reason she was sure that Leon's deep affection did not allow him to get rid of your clothes, or books, or anything else. Moreover, she knew that if she went into the bathroom now, your toothbrush would probably be there.
Returning to their thoughts, they met eyes for just a moment before Leon continued to pack his things.
"I just want to say that the disappearance could be related to the family or some information that she accidentally learned."
"Her mother wouldn't hurt a fly, and what could she have learned that would cause her to be kidnapped? That the statue in the museum is not real?" Leon quipped, to which Ingrid rolled her eyes.
"And the father?" she carefully brought up the topic, and Leon turned around, looking at her questioningly. "I know we've already considered this option, but for some reason you point-blank reject the option that it could be related to the family and not to you."
"Because Fiona raised her alone." Leon picked up a framed photograph of you with your mother and dog, smiling happily, from the table, turning it so Hannigan could see. "You know those stories where a man gets scared of responsibility and runs away with his heels flashing. Fiona decided to keep the child despite all the difficulties. She is a good woman and does not deserve to be left without her only daughter."
Leon turned away again, continuing to pack. There is no point in taking a weapon with him; his mission is unofficial and unsupported by the government. There will be no support, so he cannot count on others, however, it seems to him that way it is even easier on the soul. At least a few innocent souls will linger on this world.
"Any mother wants to believe that her missing child will one day find his way home. Especially if this child was the meaning of life."
Leon knew it. Self-hatred clouded his mind every time the tears and pleas of the poor woman clutching his hands begging him to find and return her daughter appeared before his eyes again. A month after your disappearance, he finally found himself on the threshold of your former home, where your mother let him in, inviting him into the living room. On the coffee table lay an open photo album with your childhood photos, which Fiona constantly looked through, peering into the child's face. She offered him tea, but Leon politely refused, not wanting to disturb the unfortunate woman. And yet, in her tear-stained red eyes, a hope for at least some news flashed, but just as quickly this hope faded, leaving behind a new stream of endless maternal tears. He knew that he should not have come and stirred up your mother's already painful past, but still, he was not a fool, so the version with his father had to be checked among the first.
"She was such a good girl, Leon," the words echoed in his mind. "Why would anyone take her? She didn't do anything wrong."
Hannigan knows one thing for sure: Leon will still rush forward, without looking back, grasping at a thin thread. So she carefully hands him the DSO smartphone so that he can contact her when he gets there.
There was only one possible option left.
Revenge on him.
"I won't be able to be in touch all the time, and you know how much trouble you're risking. The big shots won't like it when they find out you chose your problems over them."
"Someone still owes me" Leon gratefully accepted the smartphone, smiling without sarcasm. "You know, sometimes it pays to save the daughters of former presidents."
Ingrid chuckled, shook her head, sighed tiredly, and sat down at the table to dump all the necessary information into his phone.
Tumblr media
In fact, these walks in the dark were starting to get on your nerves more and more, which is why your heart was already beating painfully against your chest so that breathing exercises were hardly helping you cope with panic attacks. But still, the endless adventures ended with finding a fairly spacious, light kitchen with very old appliances. You walked forward, running your hand over the worn surface of the cabinet, noting that although this kitchen has long needed repairs and new furniture, someone was cleaning here. Moreover, there is some kind of electricity and gas here, judging by the gas stove, which you would jokingly call from the last century, but there was a large empty saucepan on it and next to the sink there was something very similar to an almost defrosted chicken. Perhaps they will even feed you. You shook your head, deciding that thoughts about food would be out of place right now, especially since you still felt sick. The lamp above your head continued to hum annoyingly, forcing you to look up a couple of times to see a moth flapping its wings above the dim bulb.
Brrrr disgusting.
You shuddered, either from the cold or disgust, turning the corner of the kitchen, seeing a staircase leading down to the basement or cellar in front of you. True, the passage was blocked with some boards, so you had to use a little brute force in the amount of a couple of kicks on the wood, forcing the nails to fall out and the boards to fall to the floor, after which you were able to go inside, where, like a miracle, on one of the shelves with some boxes lay a completely modern flashlight. You immediately grabbed it, pressing the switch to see if the batteries were working, and luck smiled at you for the second time. At least something good happened that night. Alas, but apart from expensive bottles of aromatic wines, the years of aging of which were clearly longer than you. You rummaged through the shelves trying to find something else useful like a bag or maybe a map… the latter would be great if you could find it. However, that was where your luck ended, you of course tried to climb up to the top shelves with the help of a ladder and see what was interesting there. After sorting through a bunch of dusty rolls, something huge black quickly ran in front of you and disappeared into the corner. You stopped, clicking the flashlight switch, directing the beam of light right behind the box and…
"A-A-A…"
A huge hairy spider the size of a fist quickly crawled straight towards you, making you scream and fall down along with the ladder, dropping the flashlight.
Having fallen painfully on your back, despite the pain and the cloud of dust raised, you looked forward at the culprit of your fall. Jumping up, limping from the blow, you quickly grabbed the flashlight, deciding to hell with this search. Huge spiders in a huge castle wouldn't be such a rarity, if it weren't for your arachnophobia, and this, apparently, was a tarantula.
Lord, if Leon were here, you would have sent him there instead of you without a second thought. Spiders! This is simply disgusting! He used to get rid of them, thereby protecting your nervous system. Apparently, some of the fears of parents are passed on to their children.
Well, that's what Leon joked when he found out, during his first meeting with your mother, that you were both horrified by arthropods.
In any case, you had no intention of staying even a second longer in this terrible place, so you slipped out of the kitchen and found yourself right in the spacious dining room. Heavy velvet scarlet curtains hung to the floor, revealing the dark, endless forest massif outside the wide window. The moon seemed like nothing, since black clouds covered the sky, but still the moonlight seeped in, falling on a long table covered with a red tablecloth, on which plates and cutlery stood opposite each other, and in the fireplace, the wood had clearly only recently burned out, but above the fireplace there was something that caught your attention, causing your pupils to dilate in surprise.
You.
Blinking a few times, you took a few steps forward, not believing your eyes. Some kind of evil joke?!
Or… the chances are so small, but the longer you looked at the portrait of a young girl in front of you, the worse you felt. The dizziness intensified and it felt like you were hit on the head with a sledgehammer, forcing you to bend over, clutching your forehead, and leaning your other hand on the back of the chair. Your stomach twisted into a knot, causing you to feel your mouth fill with saliva and bile, which you spat out onto the floor beneath you, falling to your knees.
This was nonsense!
The ringing silence seemed deafening, and your vision was becoming blurrier and blurrier, losing the outlines of objects, but the girl's face was still as clear as possible. You sat down on your knees, trying to catch your breath so as not to faint, while simultaneously wiping the remaining bile from your mouth with your sleeve, staining your snow-white sleeve. You had never had such attacks in your life. Of course, you fainted several times, and even once in front of Leon, after which he insisted on an examination, but that was due to low hemoglobin, but now…
Standing up carefully, leaning on the same chair, you peer into the face in the portrait. Maybe it's a joke, but you are still an exact copy of this lady in a stunning beige tea dress, looking at you with the same eyes, holding a book in her hands.
"Philosophia Occulta"
Interesting. In addition to the well-drawn title on the book that reminded you of your teenage years, you noticed another remarkable detail when you shone the flashlight on the portrait. A brooch. The same one that was in the box in the room you woke up in and that you attached to your clothes. In different sources, there are flashes about how some people from the past are terribly similar to some modern people, which gives rise to different theories. In the end, no matter how frightening it was, it was easier for you to believe that this picture was painted recently, just to scare you.
Having turned off the flashlight, you could not tear your eyes away from the portrait. The headache subsided a little and you would prefer to drink some water to get rid of the nasty taste in your mouth. Fortunately, the kitchen was behind you. Turning away, you took a few steps before you heard the noise and someone's shrill screams.
It was impossible not to give in to curiosity bordering on the approaching horror. The shadows began to thicken again when you reached for the door, pulling the handle. Closed, but downstairs.
Click.
One small turn of the latch was enough to unlock the lock and the door gave way forward, opening the way to a new corridor. Shining a flashlight in front of you, you suddenly realized that you had only opened a cut for yourself and you only needed to go up the stairs to get to your bedroom. Not knowing how good an idea it was to follow the men painful screams, you nevertheless carefully stepped up the stairs, feeling how a cold sweat began to break out and your fingertips froze with horror. Your heart began to pound. You were the only one completely alone and if these screams had a completely terrifying reason…
Holding your breath, a shudder ran through your entire body. A hurricane was raging outside the castle, and something unimaginably terrible was happening here. You walked past your room, although the desire to hide in it and lock the door was so natural in the current circumstances, however, driven by stupid fearlessness, you walked forward, and the screams became louder and louder, but now a guttural animal roar was added to them.
Someone else's footsteps resembling running were clearly approaching you.
You directed the light of the flashlight forward, peering until a disfigured, bloody and disfigured face in screams of agony appeared before you. Horror paralyzed you so that the scream stuck in your throat, not allowing you to utter a word. Instead of a left hand, shreds of what was left of it were visible, but with some hope, he stretched out his right hand to you as if before death you could appear to him as an angel who showed him the light in countless dark corridors.
"Help… me" Blood flowed profusely from his mouth. Barely stretching out his hand in response, a deafening scream rang out that eclipsed everything around. A huge animal muzzle with scarlet eyes appeared behind the man's back, clinging to his neck with fangs, tearing his throat with amazing ease. The sounds of tearing flesh made you cover your ears with your hands, but your eyes still watched as a huge clawed paw, only vaguely resembling a human one, tore the head from the body, throwing it to your feet and a bloody mouth growled at you. The flashlight fell with a thud.
At some point, you realized that that scream was actually yours. This was the end. Collapsing to the floor due to the horror that buckled your legs, you found yourself right in a puddle of warm alien blood, which made you look again at the torn head that the monster touched and it rolled back to you, making you sob as you crawled to the wall thinking only about how your death would be quick.
Some spider appendages controlled by it crawled out from behind the monster. Tears flowed down your cheeks as you curled up into a ball, closing your eyes for the last time, screaming, preparing for pain.
"Stop right now! Don't you dare touch her, you worthless thing!"
With a quiet squeal the monster dropped to all fours slowly backing away from you in front of its master, tucking its appendages back behind its back. Whatever it was you saw it take the man's headless body and run off into the darkness before your savior appeared before your eyes
Dark hair framed his face beautifully, highlighting his natural pallor, or maybe it was the poor lighting, but his green eyes looked straight into your soul with deep concern. He kicked the head, causing it to roll away from you, squatting down to you, carefully taking your face in his hands, wiping away the tears with his fingers.
"I'm so sorry, you shouldn't have seen this, but if you had listened to me and gone straight to the your room, you wouldn't have witnessed such a tragic scene. Calm down, she won't touch you."
"Lord-d..."
You whispered with just your lips, feeling everything inside you turn over. The blood beats like an alarm in your ears, but instead of another headache, you fall into darkness from which you have no desire to emerge.
Even the smell of blood disappears, however, perhaps the reason is that the caring owner of the castle just picked you up, hugging you to himself, carrying you back to the bedroom where you woke up.
Tumblr media
"Hannigan, maybe you can make it a little easier for me by narrowing
The Spanish flashbacks continued to roll over Leon, although there was no village here, no sign of a biological weapon, a premonition stubbornly told him that evil was waiting in the depths. When a certain area was highlighted on the smartphone Ingrid gave him, he checked the gun again.
"Alright, that's better."
"Leon, I'm not entirely sure, but I did find some information. Not entirely reliable, although it might be interesting."
Opening the file that had just been sent to him, Leon quickly scanned the lines, still surprised despite his years of working for the DSO. But it looked like he was in for another stroll through the historical sites, although he was unlikely to be expected there.

Hallows Academy
Orientation
Tumblr media
Hallows Academy Masterlist @karaboutmyart @jj-pines @lereneePlease Enjoy the first chapter of Hallows I have worked so hard on this chapter and I will continue to work just as hard if not harder on this series, just like with Bridgehid. Any questions comments or concerns you know where to leave them all 💚 - Cupid🍏
The video was playing on a cherry-colored smartphone that was sitting on a table inside a train.
“Solostica, once an English territory, is now a small European nation, and the 7th smallest microstate. This tiny island sits in the Celtic Sea. It is covered by beautiful mountains and large evergreen trees. Solostica is most famous for its prestigious secondary school, Hallows Academy.  It was at one time just a school for the children of the island, now Hallows Academy is the top school to send the troubled youth of all nations. The academy has gained a sterling reputation, with its top tier education and staff. The alumni have gone on to lead successful lives, which speaks volumes. With a variety of teaching methods from around the globe, this academy is a perfect place to send your teenagers to not only assess and improve their behaviors but also to elevate their education.”
A tan girl with long blonde hair sat in front of the aforementioned phone, but she wasn’t listening to it. Instead, she stared out the window and watched the world go by. She sighed and closed the video.
“It sounds kinda like that magic school in the North Sea that Bellamy told me about. ….But for messed up teens.” she muttered.
The girl’s impression of the school didn’t quite match that little video. She sort of expected some sort of dilapidated gothic structure, where students beat each other up. Not the sort of place she’d want to be, but one she would have to be nonetheless.
Amora, sweetheart, I’m sorry. I had no idea she was sending you to any school let alone a school in Europe!
She adjusted her earbuds as they sat in her ears, and she began to play her music before getting a text, she checked it, sent by someone labeled in her contacts as Dad 👨‍👧.
Amora sighed, her dark yellow-green eyes scanning, tapping out a message to her father: It’s fine, Daddy, I’m over getting angry about it. I’m just gonna have to live with it.
Her father did not respond, but he was a busy man, so she didn’t expect him to respond. Soon after she got a text from someone labeled with a wind chime emoji.
🎐: You there yet?
Amora looked outside the window to see where she was before responding: Not yet, I think I’m close though.
There is a minute pause after she sends her message before she sends another one.
How is Edgar?
🎐: I’m pretty sure he’s got kitty depression.
The blonde teen then received a picture of a Maine Coon cat with dark black fur lying atop a bathroom counter.
Tumblr media
🎐: He’s made himself at home, nonetheless.
Amora was then sitting another picture, of a hairless cat in a nice little sweater standing on top of a glass coffee table, its head tilted to the side.
Tumblr media
🎐: J. Austen is all confused with him here.
Amora smiled down at the picture of the two cats, while also thanking the Gods and Goddess above that Bellamy was kind enough to take her cat before she left Washington, so her cat son wouldn’t be forced to live with her mother and stepfather.
Dad said he would come and get Edgar when he gets a chance to get off and fly to Washington.
🎐: Don’t worry about it too much, A. No matter when your dad gets here Edgar is safe with me and momma Lagoon.
Thanks, Bell
🎐: 🫡 No problem, I’ll talk to you soon I gotta get ready for school.
Amora huffed. She stared out the window again but this time she saw a huge building in the distance. She couldn’t make out any of the architecture, but considering the size she assumed it was the academy.
The train stopped at a little train station, which allowed an attendant to start unloading the baggage.
Amora put away her phone before grabbing her cherry red suitcase and large travel bag.
She entered the station and made her way to the ticket office. A middle-aged woman sat behind the window filing her nails.
“Excuse me?” Amora asked, “Can you tell me how to get to Hallows Academy...”
The woman didn’t move at her request, “Please?”
The woman just stared at her for a moment before rolling her eyes and pointing to the exit with her nail file. “There are normally cabbies outside,” she finally answered.
Amora was taken aback by the older woman’s voice. What was a woman from Jersey doing all the way out here?
Despite her confusion, she decided to listen to that woman’s advice. She exited the station and glanced around for the cabs.
She finally spots one, but a strange man was standing next to it. He was obviously the driver based on his attire, but he was definitely an odd one.
The man was abnormally tall and definitely inhuman.
“Can you take me to Hallows Academy, please?” Amora asked him.
The driver didn’t speak, instead, he tipped his hat and opened the boot of the car for her to place her things inside.
Afterward, he opened the backseat door to let her in before he got in the driver’s seat and began the drive to the academy.
They passed by isles and isles of tall trees down a long dirt path. Some young people walked down that same unfinished road.
The pair finally arrived at the school.
It was gothic like Amora assumed, but not dilapidated.
It sort of resembled Princeton University, but also the University of Pennsylvania.
The brown, black, and gray building had stained glass windows and several large rotundas.
Amora sighed once the cab stopped in the circular driveway at the entrance.
The students wandered about socializing and such. They didn’t look anything like Amora had imagined. There were even Fae and other non-humans amongst them.
While she was distracted by the scene in front of her the cab driver retrieved her things from the trunk of his cab.
Amora attempted to pay for her ride, yet all he did was tip his hat and get back in his cab.
“This place is odd,” Amora sighed.
She glanced around, taking in all of the sights before setting her gaze back to the school’s entrance.
There she saw a student with brown and dusty pink skin, dressed in a brown pleated skirt, a light orange button-up shirt under a cream sweater vest, pale tights, small leg warmers that resembled the vest, and brown clogs.
They looked kind of like a cookie…
The student smiled widely when their orange eyes locked with Amora’s greenish ones. They approached her gleefully.
“You must be the American transfer student!” they remarked.
Amora nodded hesitantly.
“I could tell. Most American students look super confused when they get here! It’s actually really funny! Like haven’t you seen a boarding school before?”
“Eh?” Amora asked in confusion. Jesus, they spoke super fast!
“Sorry, sorry. I’m Euphrasie Selke! Your tour guide for today!,” they informed her,”I also live in the dorms. …What’s your name?”
“Amora…  Amora Seawright.” Amora replied.
“Pronouns?”
“Uh… She/Her.”
Euphrasie nodded, “Mine are They/Them. Let’s get your things to your dorm and then I’ll take you around the school!”
Amora nodded before she followed Euphrasie as they led her down a path on the left side of the main school building.
“All the freshmen are going to orientation in the gym right now so it will be easier to get to the dorms.” they explained while looking at Amora over their shoulder.
“Uhm… shouldn’t I go to that?”
“Nah,” Euphrasie replied, “I mean you are a senior, you know? Besides, school is school no matter where you are.”
“I guess. But this place is…” Amora paused. Should she really speak her mind right now? Euphrasie seemed friendly, but they are attending a school for “troubled teens”, they might kill Amora if she isn’t careful.
“This place is what?” Euphrasie asked as they turned around to face her, which meant they were now walking backward.
They tilted their head to the side for a moment before their mouth formed an o shape. “Oh! You’re here because you’re ‘one of the bad ones’, aren’t you?”
Amora nodded sheepishly.
Euphrasie sighed. “A mom back in the 90s sent her delinquent son here. Once he arrived he started beating people up, including a group of seniors. So of course.. they retaliated. By beating the hell out of him.”
They groaned and rolled their eyes, “Okay so some students, like you, get sent here because they have ‘issues’. But that doesn’t mean that this is a school where we beat each other up at 8:00 every morning. That sounds more like your American school, if I’m not mistaken.”
Amora only stared back at them; her eyes wide. If Euphrasie was right then Amora was dead wrong about the entire school.
“You don’t have to believe me, Amora, but I would never lie. Now here are the dorms!”
Euphrasie motioned to the lovely gothic building to the side of them. It was like a beautiful work of art with its columns, pillars, dark stones, and large glass windows.
Amora followed her guide inside.
The common area was rather nice, full of tables and brown couches. A few students were hanging out.
There are three halls,” Euphrasie remarked, once the two of them were greeted with a hall then a large staircase, “Hall Magnus, Hall Romanov, and Hall Osmanthus. You’ll be in Hall Osmanthus here on the first floor.”
Amora nodded, following them down Hall Osmanthus. The hall had wainscoted walls, rosemary green paint with little decorative white sweet osmanthus flowers, and dark wood floors.
“Room 345… 345…345, here!”  Euphrasie muttered, “Just sit your stuff inside, and we continue your tour.”
“Thanks,” Amora muttered.
The room was a normal size, not too big yet not too small, large enough for two people to live comfortably. The room itself had cream-colored walls, with the same wood floor as the hallway.
Amora sat her suitcase and bag near one of the two beds in the room, specifically the one farthest from the door, before returning to Euphrasie in the hallway.
“So, what part of America are you from?” Euphrasie asked as the two of them walked side by side down the hallway.
“Washington State.”
“Is that where the capital is?” Euphrasie asked.
“No, Washington D.C. is in Maryland, which is on the east coast, Washington state is on the west coast, it’s the second state above California.”
“Is there anything fun to do where you are from?” they pondered.
“Eh, not really? At least not in my hometown. There’s a few bookshops, cafes, and a town museum, but that’s about it. But in Seattle there’s the Space Needle and the Museum of Pop Culture. That museum is pretty cool!”
“What is the Space Needle?” Euphrasie looked over at Amora with stars in their eyes.
Amora pulled out her phone and pulled up a picture of the tower back in her home state, “It’s an observation tower, built in the 60s,” Amora explained, “you can look over all of Seattle, it’s really beautiful.”
“It looks like a spaceship!” Euphrasie gasped.
“My dad took me and my best friend there before he moved to D.C., but that was a long time ago.” the American girl added.
“…Oh! I need to let Bellamy know I made it!”
The blonde teen immediately pulled her phone away from Euphrasie’s view, typing away to send a message to her best friend.
Due to her focus on her phone, she failed to notice the people in front of her.
She bumped right into a girl around her age, who instantly huffed when Amora’s face hit her chest.
“I-I’m sorry,” Amora muttered, “I should have been paying attention…”
She honestly expected the girl to be scowling at her, or even to curse at her for her clumsiness. But instead, this girl, with brown hair and vibrant green tips looked at her with a shine in her moss-colored eyes, a small smirk on her peach-colored lips, and the slightest tint of blush on her white skin.
“Hey Loki!” Euphrasie said cheerfully, “Lance, Luther.”
“Hey, Euphrasie,” a deep masculine voice remarked.
“Hi, Phrasie,” a softer, shyer, voice commented.
Amora looked past the girl to see the two boys behind her. The boys were obviously related to her, if their chestnut hair, mossy eyes, and eggshell-colored skin were anything to go by.
One of them wore glasses and had his hand wrapped in bandages, the other was in an oversized honeydew-colored shirt. The honeydew boy seemed rather shy.
Both boys carrying a lot of boxes marked Loki’s.
“It’s all right, lovely,” the schoolgirl replied, putting her finger under Amora’s chin, and moving her gaze from the boys back to her, “Truthfully, you are such a pretty thing to run into.”
Her voice was silky and smooth, her British accent made her seem posher than her grunge clothes would lead you to believe.
“I’m Loki,” she pronounced as her face got closer to Amora’s.
Amora’s face instantly became flushed, “You are too close,” she stammered out.
Loki smiled, immediately pulling herself back from Amora, “Sorry, lovely.”
Despite her apology, Loki held an intense gaze. A smirk painted itself on her lips, “Are you the new one?”
“The new one?” Amora asked in confusion.
“We don’t get a lot of seniors transferring. Usually, it’s Freshmen.” Euphrasie commented, “You’ve been the talk of the whole island since the beginning of August.”
“What made you come all the way here?” Loki chuckled.
Amora blushed a hot red.
“Oh ho oh, must have been something scandalous to have become so beet red,” Loki cackled, with a large smirk on her face, “I can’t wait to find out what all you’ve done!”
“Oi, Loki! Your shit is heavy, flirt with the girl later!”
Loki clicked her tongue at her brother’s statement.
“Fine whatever, Luther,” Loki muttered, before walking away from Amora and Euphrasie, “I’ll see you later, lovely!”
The nickname made a shiver run up the American girl's spine.
“C-can we leave?” Amora asked, face still flushed as she stood in the middle of the hallway.
“If you are asking if you can leave campus, sorry, no can do, if you mean the dorms, yeah!” Euphrasie remarked, putting a hand on her shoulder.
“Anything to get me away from her.”
“Yeah, Loki is an acquired taste.”
Acquired taste?! More like unbelievably creepy! Hopefully whatever being is above will have some mercy and allow Loki and Amora very little interaction in the future.
Regardless of Amora’s feelings about her current situation, Euphrasie took her around the school's campus.
It was full of greenery, English flowers, and little critters.
The Academy had large beautiful green fields. Euphrasie explained that those fields were for football, or soccer as Amora would call it.
Hallows Academy had such gorgeous architecture and interior design. Whoever designed the campus had a clear love of Romanticism and Gothic aesthetics. That much was clear from all the dark colors, beautiful paintings, and nicknacks.
While the pair were on their way back to the dorms, they heard static coming from the intercom. The static filled the dark hallway which made Amora and Euphrasie jump.
“Amora Seawright to Mr. Densmore's office.”
“Where is that again?” Amora asked.
“Come on I’ll show you,” Euphrasie chuckled.
On the way to the office, Amora’s thoughts started to spiral. Why’d he want to see her on her first day? Had she done something wrong? Did something happen and she needed to go back to America?  Did her dad manage to get her out of the school? Why? Why? Why?
After she was shown the office, Amora stood in a room that sort of resembled a waiting room. There was no desk, but there were some interesting paintings. Most of the decorations had astrological references. It was an incredibly lovely room, in shades of blues, browns, khaki, and navy.
There was a standing shelf in one of the corners of the room that caught Amora’s attention.
It was full of photos and a large map of a constellation.
The photos were of a couple, a light-skinned man with short black hair and a dark-skinned man with dreadlocks, in various places.
That couple seemed to be very in love, like how Amora’s parents used to be.
Amora looked to the corner near the shelf, “A double bass?” she muttered to herself.
The large stringed instrument sat caked in dust, it obviously hadn’t been played for quite some time, as it just sat in the corner.
Amora attempted to reach out to touch it, only to jump once a door closed heavily somewhere behind her.
“Do you play?” a voice said.
The voice was deep and incredibly masculine, yet so unbelievably soft and almost angelic.
Amora turned around slowly; her face flushed with embarrassment as she smiled awkwardly at the man in front of her.
It was the same dark-skinned man from the photos, but he was significantly older, much thinner, and more tired.
He ditched the locks for an Afro. He wore light brown suit pants, a tweed khaki vest, and a cream long-sleeved undershirt.
There was a medium-gray square of fabric poking out of his vest’s breast pocket, it looked so out of place given the color of the rest of his outfit.
His eyes were rather piercing, those mignonette green eyes stared down at her as he smiled.
“Do you play?” he asked again.
“Huh? Oh! No, no,” Amora replied, putting her hands up to defend herself, “I was just admiring it… I didn’t touch it!”
The older man chuckled.
“Come.” he replied, motioning her to follow him as he entered his office, a room much like the one before, just with more bookshelves and fewer little trinkets.
“Sir, why—”
“Greyson,” he interrupted, sitting down at his desk.
“Mr. Greyson… Sir… Uhm… Why did you call me in here?” Amora asked.
Greyson opened a file in front of him. “You have had no demerits in your entire educational career,” he began, “Your grades are honestly rather impressive. You took honor classes in English, History, and Mathematics. You were a part of a reading program for 3 years. It must have been so hard to tell those kiddies you were leaving.”
Why the hell did he seem so menacing all of a sudden?
He looked at her with an undefinable gaze as he looked at her over the folder in his hands, “Yet you randomly stabbed a boy during your summer break and had an ‘emotional breakdown’ that caused a ‘personality change’. That’s why you are here.”
“Emotional breakdown?” Amora repeated.
“Okay, so when we consider outside enrollment, we give out a ‘Get to know a future student’ survey to be filled out. We also request transcripts and other documents.” Greyson explained before pulling out the packet from her file.
“This is yours.”
The packet is like the middle school “Get to know me” papers a teacher would hand out on the first day of school.
“I’ve never seen this before,” Amora stated.
“That explains why it is mostly blank,” Greyson commented.
There was a moment of silence as Amora flipped through the pages of the packet. Her mother had filled it out without even telling her a thing. Amora felt truly shocked and hurt.
“It is clear you were forced to be here. I could rescind your transfer and you would be allowed to return home.” Greyson informed her as he began to type away at his computer.
Go… home? Going home would mean returning to Washington, where her mother and stepfather were. Her mother would be furious if she returned.
“No!”
“No? But—”
“I just got here! If I go back now, I’ll never hear the end of it!” Amora exclaimed loudly, holding the packet close to her chest, “Even if you explained everything, including why you rescinded my enrollment, it would still be my fault! And that’s much worse than being here for my senior year!”
“Besides,” she sobbed, hot tears rolling down her cheeks as she thought of going back home to face her mother, “Home isn’t Washington anymore. …Even if Bellamy is there.”
“Amora—“ Greyson said to her so kindly in a way that reminded her of her father.
“I’ll do whatever I need to stay here, just let me graduate! I’ll fill out the packet myself, I’ll take extra classes, I’ll pay my tuition, just tell me where I can get a job, I’ll—”
“None of that is necessary, Amora.” Greyson stated firmly.
It caused her to stop her rambling, just to hear what he’d say next.
“If you want to stay, you can stay.”
“Th-Thank you,” Amora huffed, before wiping her tears with the sleeve of her sweater.
Greyson opened up one of his desk drawers to get another packet for her.
He handed it over, “If you may fill this out, if you’d like to.”
She nodded.
“Oh, and if for some reason you have any issues or want to leave the school, you can come to me directly. My door is always open.” Greyson reassured her.
“Thank you, sir,” Amora replied.
He chuckled at how formal she was as she left his office.
Euphrasie was waiting for Amora out in the hall, ready to take her back to her dorm. On the way back; the two talked about many different subjects that had nothing to do with the Academy.
Once the teens made it back to the dorms, Amora assured Euphrasie that she could find her way back to her own room.
Euphrasie made sure to exchange numbers with her before the split up.
The blonde girl muttered the number 345 as she walked down the hallway before finding her room.
She opened the door to find the girl she had met before with those vibrant green tips, Loki, standing on the bed in front of the door, hanging up a poster.
“You!” Amora gasped, “God, no!”
“I knew it!” Loki exclaimed, hopping off the bed she had seemingly claimed.
“I am not okay with this!” Amora immediately said.
“Why?” Loki questioned, a frown appearing on her face, “…What did Euphrasie say about me?”
“They said that you are an acquired taste, and I do not wish to acquire the taste of you!” Amora answered as she moved her luggage.
Loki leaned against her bedpost and laughed, while Amora began to go through her things. “Lovely. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I believe we’re stuck with each other.”
She sounded sincere, and if she didn’t have such a silky smooth voice Amora might have been angry enough to go back to Greyson to request a new roommate.
“Look, lovely. We got off to a weird start. I was too forward earlier. I’m sorry.” Loki said sincerely.
Amora turned around to look at her in shock. Loki didn’t seem like the sort to concede so easily.
“Can we start over?”
Amora just blinked as Loki stuck out her hand.
“Well, can I start over? Since you didn’t introduce yourself,” the British girl mumbled.
Amora took Loki’s hand and shook it, “I’m Amora… the new one,” the American girl introduced herself using a call back to what Loki had said when they first met.
Loki blushed slightly as she shook Amora’s hand back, “I’m Loki, I am of acquired taste.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Tumblr media
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a disappointing 31st entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Why? I'm having difficulty pinpointing that. The setting is pretty incredible, with loads of geography and characters that look unlike anything we’ve seen before. That's saying something considering some of the places the Guardians of the Galaxy have taken us. Paul Rudd once again proves himself a charismatic everyman, the action scenes are exciting and occasionally go in some pretty wild places thanks to the shrinking/growing abilities of the lead character… but something feels off.
When Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), girlfriend Hope van Dyne/Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), her father Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and mother Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) get sucked into the Quantum Realm, they discover it isn’t empty at all; it’s filled with inhabitants, all of whom live in fear of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).
The film’s issue is the story. This is a wild departure from the previous Ant-Man films. It’s closer to a space adventure than anything else, complete with crazy aliens, spaceships, armies of robots (at least I think they were robots) and talks about other dimensions & multiverses. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it just doesn’t feel Ant-Man-like. Aside from his team-ups with the Avengers, none of Scott's adventures have been world-threatening; he’s always felt like “the little guy”, complete with serious, down-to-earth problems like being an ex-con, having trouble finding a job and being estranged from his daughter. This is closer to Guardians territory. The scale of everything encountered in Quantumania should have a much bigger impact on our heroic family. They take it in such strides that there isn't much opportunity for our characters to grow or learn things - except for Cassie, who struggles with some fighting moves. This means the movie is only about two things: the adventure and the villain.
I’ve heard Kang described as a top-tier villain, the one that’s supposed to fill the hole left by Thanos. I don’t know about that. Kang is certainly powerful… but I mean, if they’re pitting him against Ant-Man (no offense), how strong can he REALLY be? I like Jonathan Majors in the role. He brings extra dimension to his character and we see enough of Kang to want more but against a guy that can grow and shrink, he's an ill-fit. It's almost like Ant-Man is a B- to C-tier character that didn't have a great rogues gallery, so they slotted in someone else for the Phase's sake…
There’s another villain in the film: the “I don’t know how we’re going to make this guy work in live-action” M.O.D.O.K. Some of what they do with the Mechanical Organism Designed Only for Killing is inventive. What ultimately happens to the character, however, just doesn’t work. Generally, the comedy in the film is amusing but it’ll give you severe emotional whiplash more than once and when director Peyton Reed and/or writer Jeff Loveness use M.O.D.O.K. humorously, it lands with a resounding "thud".
I’ve been pretty harsh on Ant-Man 3 so far, which makes me a little sad. I was never bored watching it. The climactic battle is fun and Kang's slew of powerful abilities means the stakes are high. The cast is great, with the family dynamics between the in-laws and between Scott & Cassie being the highlights. The picture teems with unique sights, which makes it fun to just watch. You’ve always got a crazy alien, some weird animal, bizarre architecture or something else moving somewhere and their designs show a lot of inventiveness.
I wasn’t crazy about Ant-Man and the Wasp. I’m not crazy about this follow-up either. Actually, this is a step up from the last one. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. This third chapter introduces important concepts and characters to the MCU. There are enough moments that work to make it worth seeing as part of a subscription package, for the price of a rental or even if a discounted ticket at the cinema. When you do, stay through the credits to see what's coming next. (August 11, 2023)

CLOUD S.
Tumblr media
Cloud storage //
" MEANING "
Cloud Storage is the storage of data on the Server and is in the online world that we call the Cloud through an Internet connection to browse and use the data on the Cloud, which may store data on multiple servers by distributing the data into little machine The cloud provider (Host) manages the maintenance of all hardware and software used to store data. This allows users to reduce costs associated with hardware and software.
" HOWEVER "
The technology that responds to the Big Data era with big data is Cloud storage which is Software Defined Storage. The simple principle of software defined storage is to consolidate the control center into one point and Virtualize Storage Layer divided into pools according to points. Desire for desired use
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Difference Between Traditional Storage and Software Defined Storage "
Tumblr media
An overview of the differences between Traditional Storage and Software Defined Storage (SDS).
In terms of traditional architectures, the architecture of each application is clearly separate. Who's lumps it? But with SDS, the storage tier is pooled together with the same management unit across all applications.
In traditional systems, because the control center of each application is separate, the system design must take into account hardware compatibility quite a lot, which may lead to a situation known as Vendor Lock-in. The management center of every application comes in one place. The freedom to choose and expand the number of hardware will be more and not limited anymore.
It's a matter of workload distribution. Traditionally, workload and capacity are overloaded to the point where they are used a lot and it's quite difficult to manage the load. But if it is SDS, we will be able to manage the workload distributed throughout the cluster as shown in Figure 1.
// And here is a summary of the pros and cons of SDS that will solve the problems of today's Cloud Storage Infrastructure design. There is also 1 interesting prediction when Gartner predicts that by 2024 or two. Nearly three years from now, 50% of all storage will be deployed with SDS //
Why I choose this App ?
" Because this app it's easy to use and comfort "

Is the Intel i9 13th Gen All Hype and Heat? A Deep Dive into Recent CPU Issues
The Intel i9 13th Gen processors arrived with much fanfare, promising record-breaking speeds, multi-core supremacy, and next-level performance for gamers and creators alike. However, recent reports and real-world benchmarks have raised an eyebrow—or two—regarding the chip's thermal efficiency, power draw, and reliability under load. So, is the Intel i9 13th Gen all hype and heat? Let’s take a deep dive into the performance and pitfalls of Intel’s flagship processor.
What Makes the Intel i9 13th Gen Stand Out?
Intel’s 13th Gen Core i9, led by models like the Core i9-13900K, features a hybrid architecture combining high-performance P-cores with efficient E-cores. With up to 24 cores (8 P-cores and 16 E-cores) and 32 threads, it was designed to outperform AMD's Ryzen 7000 series in both gaming and productivity tasks.
Key Specs:
Base Clock: 3.0 GHz (P-core)
Boost Clock: Up to 5.8 GHz
TDP: 125W (Base), ~250W+ under load
Socket: LGA1700 (compatible with Z690/Z790 motherboards)
Integrated Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 770
On paper, these specs are outstanding. But paper and performance aren’t always aligned—especially when thermal performance comes into play.
Thermal Throttling and Overheating Concerns
Despite its raw power, the Intel i9 13th Gen has become infamous for high operating temperatures. Many users and reviewers have reported thermal throttling issues even when using premium cooling solutions like 360mm AIO liquid coolers.
What’s Causing the Heat?
Aggressive Boosting Behavior: The chip aggressively boosts to 5.8 GHz, pushing voltages and temperatures sky-high.
High Power Draw: Real-world power consumption often exceeds 250W, which stresses both cooling and VRM systems.
IHS & Die Design: Intel’s thermal interface and die arrangement contribute to inefficient heat dissipation compared to previous generations.
As a result, even under moderate workloads, the CPU can spike to 90°C+, leading to thermal throttling and reduced performance—a major concern for gamers and professionals relying on sustained power.
Stability Issues: BSODs and Performance Drops
Another area of criticism is system stability. Multiple reports from Reddit, forums, and tech reviewers have highlighted issues such as:
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) under load
Memory compatibility problems (especially with DDR5)
Unexpected performance dips in sustained tasks like rendering or streaming
While BIOS updates and microcode patches have improved things slightly, Intel hasn’t fully addressed these core issues. For high-end users expecting a plug-and-play experience, this has been disappointing.
Real-World Benchmark Performance
Despite its issues, the Intel i9 13th Gen still dominates in many benchmarks. In gaming scenarios, it consistently ranks among the top CPUs, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy benefiting from its high single-core clock speeds.
In Gaming:
Outperforms AMD Ryzen 9 7950X in most titles
Strong 1% low frame rates due to high clock headroom
Bottlenecks GPUs less at 1440p and 1080p resolutions
In Productivity:
Superior in multi-threaded workloads like video encoding, 3D rendering, and AI modeling
Excellent for creators who need short bursts of extreme performance
So while there are thermal and stability trade-offs, performance-wise, the chip is still a beast—if you can keep it cool.
Is It Worth the Hype and the Heat?
This depends on your use case. If you’re an enthusiast who:
Has a high-end cooling setup
Is comfortable tweaking BIOS settings and undervolting
Wants maximum gaming and multitasking performance
…then the Intel i9 13th Gen could be a worthwhile investment.
However, if you prefer:
Quiet, cool operation
Stability out of the box
Energy-efficient computing
…then AMD’s Ryzen alternatives or even Intel’s lower-tier 13th Gen chips (like the i7-13700K) might be a better fit.
Alternatives to Consider
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 7900X
Better efficiency
Runs cooler with similar multi-core performance
Slightly behind in gaming but more stable thermals
Intel i7-13700K
Nearly identical gaming performance
Lower power draw and temperatures
Easier to cool and more cost-effective
Final Verdict
The Intel i9 13th Gen is a powerhouse with undeniable performance potential, especially for users who can manage its thermal demands. But it’s not a chip for the average consumer. For most users, the hype may not justify the heat—unless you're fully prepared to cool, tweak, and optimize for peak output.
In summary, the i9-13th Gen is both impressive and flawed. It’s a milestone in raw CPU power, but also a reminder that performance without efficiency can be a double-edged sword.

DeepSeek vs OpenAI: Which Is the Best AI Model?
Tumblr media
The world of artificial intelligence is a whirlwind of innovation, with new models and capabilities emerging at a breathtaking pace. Two names consistently at the forefront of this revolution are the established giant OpenAI and the rapidly ascending DeepSeek. Both offer powerful AI models, but they come with different philosophies, strengths, and target audiences. So, the big question for developers, researchers, and businesses in 2025 is: which one is "best"?
The truth is, "best" is subjective and highly dependent on your specific needs. This blog post aims to dissect the offerings of DeepSeek and OpenAI as of May 2025, providing a balanced comparison to help you decide which AI champion might be the right fit for your projects.
Meet the Contenders

Cons: Primarily proprietary and closed-source, can be expensive for high-volume API usage of top models, development of truly open high-performance models is not their primary focus.
So, Which is "Best" in 2025?
As anticipated, there's no single "best." The optimal choice hinges on your specific priorities:
For Developers Prioritizing Open-Source & Top-Tier Coding/Math: If you need highly capable models for coding or mathematical tasks, value the ability to self-host, fine-tune extensively, or require a cost-effective API, DeepSeek's Coder and Reasoning models (like R1/R2) are exceptionally compelling.
For Cutting-Edge Multimodal Applications & General-Purpose Excellence: If your application demands seamless interaction with text, images, and audio, or requires the highest levels of general knowledge and nuanced understanding for diverse tasks, OpenAI's GPT-4o or GPT-4.1 series likely remains the front-runner.
For Budget-Conscious Startups & Researchers: DeepSeek's aggressive pricing and open-source offerings provide an accessible entry point to powerful AI without breaking the bank.
For Enterprise Solutions Requiring Broad Capabilities & Mature Integrations: OpenAI's established platform and versatile models are often favored for broader enterprise deployments, though DeepSeek is making inroads.
The Ever-Evolving AI Landscape
It's crucial to remember that the AI field is in constant flux. Benchmarks are just one part of the story. Real-world performance, ease of integration, specific feature sets, and the cost-benefit analysis for your particular use case should guide your decision. What's cutting-edge today might be standard tomorrow.
The healthy competition between DeepSeek, OpenAI, and other AI labs is fantastic news for all of us, driving innovation, improving accessibility, and continually expanding the horizons of what AI can achieve.

When Should You Choose Local vs. Cloud-Based DCM Viewers? A Comparison Guide
To inspect these datasets, a specialized "DCM viewer" is required. When selecting software, two key options exist:
Local viewers run directly on hospital workstations or personal devices. Cloud-based viewers instead utilize centralized, web-deployed infrastructure, allowing remote access.
But which architecture makes the most sense for your use case? In this guide, we'll compare local and cloud DCM viewers across critical factors like security, speed, mobility, pricing, and more.
Decide what's most important for your workflow to choose the optimal approach.
Tumblr media
Local Viewer Benefits
Installing viewing software natively on individual devices offers these advantages:
1. Speed And Responsiveness
With local storage, transfer times are minimized. Images are immediately available to indexing processes that enable instantaneous rendering and manipulation.
Cloud latency from pipes or caching delays perception, especially for blazing-fast interactions like:
Rapid review/comparison of high-res multimodal scans and linked priors
Quickly paging through frame-by-frame ultrasound video
Modifying 3D opacity transfer functions on the fly
If snappy performance is mandatory, avoid roundtrips to cloud servers, which downgrade interactivity.
2. Security And Privacy
No transmission means no interception. Keeping protected health information (PHI) inside hospital networks with verified security protocols prevents breaches during transfer or cloud retention. Compliance is simplified.
While reputable providers offer robust cloud protection, local storage guarantees safety for sensitive clinical data or patient-identifiable scans used in teaching. Some institutions have policies prohibiting cloud usage entirely.
3. Reliability And Uptime
Once configured, local setups have essentially 100% guaranteed availability, unaffected by Internet connectivity problems. Cloud services rely on always-on links without disruption. Temporary ISP or infrastructure issues can cut access and halt diagnoses if servers can’t be reached.
For this reason, many clinicians maintain local mirrors with cloud backup rather than relying solely on cloud continuity. Redundancy is key for mission-critical diagnosis.
4. Granular Control
When managing your own infrastructure, software customizations, integration with other hospital IT systems, and long-term retention rules are easier to tailor to your needs. Change requests don’t require vendor submission/approval. You own the servers, desktop clients, and everything in between.
If your workflows demand unique handling, modification freedom makes local more convenient than conforming usage to external cloud restrictions.
Cloud Viewer Benefits
Alternatively, cloud-hosted remote DCM viewers offer their own compelling advantages:
1. Lower Upfront Cost
Delivering apps and storage from centralized data centers allows massive economies of scale, reducing per-user pricing.
For budget-limited practices, cloud subscriptions are far cheaper than investing in compliant on-premise hardware like medical workstations, servers, and backup systems.
Ongoing fees are also lower since hardware administration and life-cycling costs are eliminated. Patching, maintenance, expansions, and tech payroll to manage infrastructure all become provider responsibilities you’re relieved from.
2. Advanced Capabilities
Top-tier SaaS vendors dedicate enormous R&D budgets towards continually expanding and refining AI-enhanced features. The scope of innovation easily surpasses in-house efforts for all but the largest hospital chains:
Automated findings tagging and indexing
Contextual priors suggestion during interpretation
Real-time quality checking to prevent errors
Predictive analytics revealing trends
Accessing cutting-edge tools this way frees up your own resources to focus on patients rather than platform development.
3. Seamless Collaboration
Cloud sharing simplifies coordinating diagnosis and second opinions between staffers, external specialists, and partner sites. Cases are instantly accessible anywhere via links instead of requiring local transfer or VPN access.
Multi-party videoconferencing can reference scans in real time during virtual rounds. Annotations highlight areas of concern and are preserved with studies.
4. Superior Reliability
Leading SaaS providers deliver guaranteed 99.99% or better uptime via resilient server farms with automatic failover. Studying continuity statistics reveals most downtime is planned maintenance or minor blips, avoiding doctors' dependence on institutional infrastructure they can’t fully trust.
Natural disasters that might damage localized servers won’t interrupt globally distributed cloud access. For clinicians at smaller clinics, reliability should be weighed heavily.
5. Enhanced Mobility
Cloud liberates diagnosticians from confined workstation locations. As long as Internet access exists on laptops, tablets, or even phones, caseloads are reachable anywhere via browsers or apps.
Better portability aids quicker turnaround times, allows off-site analysis, improves home flexibility, and enables bringing imaging to patients’ bedsides.
Tumblr media
Key Decision Factors
Now that we’ve surveyed the advantages in both directions, determining optimal DCM viewer deployment depends on your unique requirements. Here are key considerations:
Tumblr media
Beyond the table above, also decide if you need a universal viewer able to handle all modalities or more specialized DCM software dedicated to certain scenarios like cardiology or dental. Mixing multiple solutions is common to serve different use cases.
DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is a complex file standard used globally to store medical images and related data.

Legends of Myriad: Arc One - Chapter 29: Clan of the Banshee
Tumblr media
Chapter 28 | Chapter 30
Arc One Masterlist
-- -- -- -- --
As they ascended the seemingly never-ending steps, Oscar craned his neck to marvel at the towering manor, its impressive architecture nudging the low cloud line. Bright and clean, the ivory brick alternated in pattern and formed helixes around the framework.
Arched windows absorbed the struggling sunrays and cast a kaleidoscope on the flagstones. From what he had already witnessed, he anticipated the rest of Lucarian to be perpetually dark, but the Banshee lands appeared as though they had been plucked from another, much livelier, realm and perched on the hillside. Based on Lysander’s suggestion about these vampyres, it may have been.
The open courtyard welcomed them with a sensory feast of alluring floral scents and static petal glows sprinkled along the straight-structured waterways. At the top of the slope leading up to the front entrance, two women stood engaged in conversation. With a sharp nail, the silver-haired woman directed the other to the approaching trio.
“Welcome to the Clan of the Banshee,” the younger said as they climbed the last set of stairs. “Your message came at the perfect time.”
“I’m glad,” Demetrius said, with a customary bow. “I feared we may have sent it a little too late.”
“Of course not. Everything arrived as it should and not a moment later.” Their gracious host extended an upturned palm to the door and the hulking oak creaked as it gave way.
“My name is Faye,” she said as she led them inside, “and this is my grandmother, Amelda. She occupies our first seat.”
“This is Lord Lysander, heir to the Phoenix second seat, and Oscar of Solgarde,” Demetrius replied, directing a flourishing gesture to each of his companions in turn. “It has been quite some time since I was last here, but I must say, Lady Amelda, you have not changed a bit.”
“You have the same charming qualities as your father, Lord Volkar,” Amelda laughed. “He always had a compliment waiting for his friends.”
Oscar listened to the cheery exchange as Faye and Demetrius spoke of his prior visits as a child and gaped at the extraordinary sights. He almost had to squint it was so bright. The additional windows flooded the room with even more light, painting the grey and white embellished tiles in a vivid display of colours. Surrounding it all, multiple storeys of pastel teal panels inlaid with metallic frames stretched upward to enclose the mirrored chandelier descending into the lobby.
In a private dining hall, Faye ushered them towards tiered trays laden with cakes and pots of fragrant tea at the other end of the trestle table. She poured each cup, her straightened, blonde hair draping over her left shoulder as she tilted with the tip of the teapot.
“Now,” she said, gracefully gathering the sweep of her grey gown beneath her as she sat, “what can the ghost vampyres assist you with?”
With a fleeting glance, Lysander and Demetrius silently communicated the challenge before them, questioning where to even begin describing their predicament.
“You have come here about the gateways,” Amelda said, cradling her warm refreshment. “Correct?”
“Yes,” Lysander confirmed. “We need to get Oscar home and find a way to assess any potential dangers the gateways pose. The only problem is, the one that our friend used is now out of order, and my patrol has reported that the others seem to be in the same condition.”
The lady of the first seat listened closely, raising her teacup to her lips and savouring the blend of spices and flowers. “Our lands have experienced similar issues. The gateways remained active for a short period, but now they are all inoperative. Although I was just a young girl when they closed all those centuries ago, I can sense something amiss with them.”
“What is it? What’s wrong with them?” Oscar asked, tone trembling with desperation, as though he teetered on the brink of uncovering the crucial answers that would lead him home.
“I’m afraid I do not know,” Amelda responded, lowering her head in apology. “I consulted my gifts, but all that came back were vague impressions. And these.” She reached into the depths of her long robe and produced a lengthy feather and a small rolled-up scroll, passing them to the mage.
Oscar unravelled the paper and read aloud, “a pulse of blood, a pule of the land, and a pulse of magic. Dark clouds break over white feathers. Almost gone. Almost extinct.”
“When I opened my eyes, that plume lay in front of me,” Amelda explained. “There are not a lot of birds around here, so I cannot be certain where it came from.”
Feather in hand, he lifted it up, analysing the pale fibres. A luminous sheen shimmered across the surface and sunk into the individual threads.
“The image I saw was clouded,” the seer continued as her hands fell to her lap. “It drained me like no vision ever has before. Whatever awaits you out there, you must proceed with caution. I fear something dreadful lurks on our horizon, and the choices you make with the gateways will determine the fate of us all.”
“Have you seen anything, Lady Faye?” Demetrius asked, his concern shifting to the granddaughter.
“No,” she replied. “Although my powers pale compared to my grandmother’s, I attempted multiple times but saw nothing.” Her voice dissolved into a contemplative whisper. “Not the slightest trace.”
The hall fell into an uncomfortable silence, but Oscar caught Faye’s eyes as they met his from the other side of the table. Even if he had sought to, he couldn’t avert her crimson focus. She captivated his attention in a tender, curious grasp. Her gaze held a profound empathy, a gentle assurance that stretched across the short wooden panels to comfort him in his quest to get home.
“I am sorry we could not be of more help,” Lady Amelda said. “If you wish, you are more than welcome to stay for as long as you’d like. This enigma could benefit from a fresh perspective.”
“We must return to our duties,” Demetrius answered, “but we will persist in our search for answers and keep you informed of any discoveries. Thank you for your hospitality.”
“I shall escort you out,” Amelda offered, rising from her seat and neatly pushing her chair back in place. “Faye, your work calls.”
Faye circled the head of the table to the visiting mage. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Oscar,” she said with a dip of her fair hair, her hands settling on her stomach. “I hope we cross paths again soon, and in more favourable circumstances.”
“I hope so too, my lady,” Oscar assured her, bowing low, his eyes lingering on her delicate departure and the comforting aura she carried with her as she retreated into the bright rays of the lobby.
* * *
Upon their return, the Phoenix courtyard appeared deserted, the tiered fountain trickling water into the basin and silver-feathered fowl dipping their beaks into the splash. As the trio passed, their little heads lifted, tilting in curiosity before returning to the refreshing spray.
“In the future, we are taking the carriage,” Demetrius groaned, his face contorting as he massaged the ache in his lower back. “Spending so much time on those horses is not good for my posture.”
“We weren’t on official business,” Lysander reasoned, securing the front door behind them and squinting in the welcoming candelabra glow. “The carriages would have been inappropriate for the occasion.”
“We are heirs of our clan. Anything we choose to do is official business.”
“I beg to differ.”
“Beg all you want, but I’m not budging on the matter. I’m using a carriage.”
“You’ll need to get permission first.”
“It won’t be an issue if I am quick enough.” Casting a satisfied glance at Lysander, Demetrius coasted to the mage in their midst and arched a mischievous eyebrow. “And don’t think I’ve forgotten about you, my magical friend. You left quite an impression on Lady Faye.”
Oscar blinked. “What?” he all but spluttered.
“Quit feigning innocence,” Demetrius laughed. “She’s clearly interested in-”
“Okay, mister,” Lysander interrupted, prodding at him. “Our focus should be on assisting Oscar, not teasing him.”
“Can’t we do both?”
With an exasperated grumble, Lysander halted in his tracks, preparing to speak again before the call of their names drowned out his response.
“Where in Lucarian have you all been?” Alaric demanded, floating down the staircase in a swirl of lightweight robes and a whiff of cardinal flowers. “Do you realise I almost had a search party sent out looking for you?”
“Apologies, father,” Demetrius said, sobering from his jocular antics. “We were visiting the Banshee clan.”
“It would have been nice if you had let me know about your escapades before you gallivanted off, especially considering the circumstances.”
The three caught friends slumped into their shoulders like chastised school boys, attempting to appear as innocent as possible.
“What compelled you to visit the Banshees?” Bertram asked, sauntering around the first lord, curious to see which of them would offer a response and whether they would answer truthfully.
“We’re trying to search for a solution to reactivate the gateways and get Oscar back home, or at the very least establish a means for him to communicate with Professor Spark,” Lysander replied. “Since we’ve found nothing in our investigation so far, we sought the Banshees for their expertise.”
“Are you referring to Professor Bartholomew Amias Spark?” Alaric questioned. Bertram scoffed at the name, reflexively extending his palm for the drink that wasn’t there and grating his teeth.
“I’m conducting research for him,” Oscar replied.
“You mean he is awake?”
“Yes.”
The relieved lord visibly relaxed and his hand went to his still heart. “I suppose that explains the reactivation of the gateways. I warned him about that time sleep.”
Lysander’s gold-speckled bewilderment darted back and forth between his guardian and Alaric. “You knew there were other worlds out there and you mentioned nothing?”
“You never asked,” Bertram shrugged.
“It was assumed the portals would remain inactive,” Alaric interjected, his firm authority cutting off any potential rebuttal from Lysander. “To be completely frank, I haven’t given them a second thought in centuries.” His focus had been solely on Lucarian, the Phoenix territory and the community that thrived within it. The memories of those younger years, when he had immersed himself in unknown realms and savoured all they offered seemed distant and disconnected, belonging to another man and another lifetime.
“Did the Banshee clan provide any insight?” he asked.
Oscar handed over the crumpled scroll, edges frayed from the journey in his pocket, and he skimmed over the riddle.
“This section reminds me of something,” Alaric commented, tracking a sharp nail over the intriguing line. “‘A pulse of blood, a pulse of the land, and a pulse of magic’. I swear I know it from somewhere.” After a moment of contemplation, he took off towards the library, signalling for the others to join him. “Come. Come.”
Once amongst the towering shelves and scent of paper dust and paling ink, Alaric searched the rows. “Ah ha! There it is.” He wriggled the hefty book out from its snug spot between two dense tomes and balanced it in his palm, flipping through the pages until he arrived at the right section. “Centuries ago, there was a renowned hunter called Lonan Louvel. While he primarily wrote about his travels, he was also a keen poet and published a handful of collections. The puzzle you got brings to mind this one in particular.” He placed the weighty hardback into Lysander’s outstretched grasp.
“‘Fleeting but enduring, surviving, assuring, a pulse of blood, land, and magic,’” Lysander read. “It’s in the same order as the riddle.”
“That is what I thought.”
Watching the three become engrossed in their research, he motioned Bertram towards the rounded oak doors. “Let’s leave them to their investigations,” he said quietly, leading the way out of the library with a hushed step. “That inventory won’t sort itself.”
Bertram let out a disgruntled groan and trudged after him. “Lucky us.”
Throughout the night, the stack of books grew beside the library’s wide, mahogany table, pages explored and attentively examined.
“I’d hoped we were done scouring texts like this,” Demetrius complained.
“We are making progress,” Lysander said confidently. “Plus, we have a lead.”
“Even though the poem mentions the Heart of Lucarian, we are no closer to solving it.”
“Of course we are. It beats for every being, undead and alive. This indicates an immense wealth of power that may be capable of powering the gateways. We have the ‘pulse of blood’ part of the riddle deciphered.”
“That is probably a figure of speech,” Demetrius pointed out. “And we still haven’t connected it to the rest.”
The ageing legs of the seat creaked as Lysander leaned his weight against the spindled back. “What is your opinion on it?”
“I don’t know,” Demetrius admitted with a tired shake of his head. “Right now, I think we’re going round in circles. Lady Amelda struggled to understand it. What makes you assume we have the ability?”
“Oscar.”
Startled by the mention of his name, the mage peeked up from the book that had consumed his attention for the past hour, blinking between the disagreeing pair. “Huh?”
“Oscar managed to pass through the gateways, suggesting that they were still in working condition not too long ago,” Lysander said. “The riddle’s reference to dark clouds indicates an ominous presence looming over one of the greatest powers known to Lucarian. If a significant source of strength, potentially connected to the gateways or exerting influence over them, was fading, it would explain why they are now dormant.”
“Okay, your theory makes sense,” Demetrius granted, “but according to these journals, the Heart is merely a myth. We don’t have time to waste hunting an illusion.”
Focusing hard, Lysander controlled the rise and fall of his chest and rummaged through his mind. “Then we need to branch out,” he said, standing and shutting the book he had been studying. “There are many who may be able to help, but only one who would give us the answer knowing we would go looking for the Heart.”
“Are you absolutely certain?” Demetrius questioned, not needing to ask who he meant.
“He’s aware I’ll discover it regardless,” Lysander said. “It would be best if we were both honest.”
In silent agreement to his plan, Demetrius rose to his feet and motioned for Oscar to come along.
Abandoning his books, the mage silently obeyed and trailed after his hosts. He felt a twinge of embarrassment, like he was out of the loop. Events were happening around him and he was being pulled in, as if he was a leaf snatched in a current, swirling deeper and deeper into a chaos he was yet to fully comprehend.
But the way Faye looked at him went beyond a simple crush, despite what Demetrius assumed. She spoke to him without words, without needing to say anything, her kind eyes locking onto him to convey his capacity to sway the future of Lucarian. Not because of the gateways or his status as a curious outsider, but because an unexplained air stirred. Restless and coiled, something writhed in the essence of the world, and he sensed an undeniable connection to it.
Dark panelled corridors expanded into bright hallways and narrowed again, the route taking them down tower staircases and across courtyards. Lysander led them like a man on a mission, purposeful and resolved on the path ahead.
They entered the manor at the quieter end of the estate and Lysander reached the room at the back of the building, forgoing knocking as he strode in.
“My boy,” Bertram greeted, swinging his legs down from his desk and setting aside his glass. “Demetrius. Oscar. To what do I owe this visit?”
Lysander eyed the half-empty bottle and the other two abandoned ones on the windowsill. He understood his guardian enjoyed the occasional drink, but he hadn’t seen him indulge to this extent. Not in a long time. “Is everything all right?” he asked, guiding Bertram back into his seat.
“Of course,” Bertram replied, his red-tinged lips curling into a wobbly grin. “Why wouldn’t it be?” He noted the fleeting peek between him and the bottles and dismissed his concern with rasped ‘pft’. “All is good, kid. Promise.”
Intending to talk, the Phoenix guard advanced. He had little hope of extracting any truth of Bertram’s well-being and felt reluctant to approach that discussion in front of their guest. “In that case, we need to know where we can find the Heart of Lucarian.”
Bertram snorted and hacked, taking a gulp of wine to relieve the splutters. “You’re not chasing after fairy stories, are you?”
“Do you have any inkling where it is?” Lysander pressed.
“It will find you,” the tipsy lord said with a feigned sense of wonder before his own jest got too much to contain, and he erupted into bellowing laughter. With the taste of fermented fruit dancing on his tongue, he polished off the last sips in the bottle. The amusement drowned in the crimson depths of his drink at the worried furrow in Lysander’s brow. It wasn’t the gateways driving lines into his youthful face, and a biting guilt gnawed at him.
Rather than grabbing for another drink, he folded his shaking hands in his lap.
“This is serious,” Lysander said, firm but calm. “The statement about dark clouds doesn’t bode well, and the safety of the Heart has implications for everyone.” Taking a seat on the arm of the sofa, he leaned forward, fixed on his guardian’s piercing, blood-red stare as it combed over the tattered rug. “Bertram?”
As Bertram confronted Lysander’s concern head-on, it reminded him of the way Francesca used to regard him, laden with worry and love all at once, those fair curls framing that kind face. But his eyes, he had his father’s eyes, inherited from cruelty but shaped by the loyal guard’s own compassion. To see that shade of gold again dredged up memories he would never dare reveal to Lysander, not even under the most excruciating torture. He couldn’t burden him with the knowledge of that part of himself. Better to keep it hidden, he had decided when he had adopted the boy. Better he doesn’t know.
“It was once believed the Heart of Lucarian could be discovered near the Bloodtide River, if it wishes to reveal itself,” he conceded, “but this is all folklore. People have searched that area extensively and left with nothing.”
“All legends have a kernel of truth,” Demetrius reasoned. “That’s what Lady Muriel used to say when she told me stories as a child.”
“You’re about to embark on a perilous mission,” Bertram warned, recalling his own youthful adventures and glancing at the three. Despite the elders’ efforts to control his adventurous spirit, it only made him more obstinate. Given the effect it had on him previously, he wouldn’t subject them to it now, but the apprehension was difficult to ignore. “I won’t stand in your way or discourage you, but please promise me you will be cautious. You are the only family I have left, and if anything happened to you…” His words dwindled. He couldn’t say it. Refused to contemplate the possibility.
As Lysander stood, he embraced him, the air surrounding him saturated with a blend of sweet wine and pungent liquor. “I’ll take care,” he vowed. “And I won’t be alone. I have Demetrius with me and magic on my side.”
The mage’s presence somewhat eased Bertram’s nerves. He had witnessed first-hand the astonishing feats performed by Solgardian mages. Even though Oscar was young and a student, he perceived an unyielding strength within him and the building bond with his ward. They would watch over one another, just as he, Alaric, and their tight-knit group of friends had done during their adventure-filled years.
“I’ll be back soon,” Lysander said. “Look after yourself while I’m gone.”
“Don’t worry about me, kiddo. Go on. Can’t keep your adventures waiting.”
Lysander dawdled close to the man who had provided him with a home and raised him. Leaving him in such a vulnerable state burdened his already swarming conscience.
“Go,” Bertram encouraged.
With a hint of a frown, Lysander committed himself to his current mission and tagged along after Oscar and Demetrius into the hallway.
“I’ll pass a message on to my father before we depart,” Demetrius said as they headed for the front entryway. “He’ll keep a close watch on him.”
Lysander suppressed the guilt of abandoning his guardian in that condition and forced himself to untense his jaw. In those vulnerable moments, his intuition kicked in, exposing every evasive step Bertram made to hide something from him. From time to time, he caught him watching him with an unfounded disquiet that he had at one time in his life mistook for pity. He had tried to piece together the reasons behind his guardian’s caution with no results, but once he returned, he would uncover whatever he was hiding, no matter how many arguments or tough conversations it took.
